Lending Shed

As you prepare your community garden for planting this spring, don't forget about all the great tools available for you to borrow from our Community Garden Resource Shed. There is a wide variety of tools to help you and your gardeners prepare for planting. Whether you're working on your own or organizing an entire work-party, we have tools to help you get the job done. Visit the Resource Shed page of our website for more information.

This year we are not scheduling set hours, all tools will be loaned and returned by appointment. Please contact Francisco at or (269) 762-6191 to make arrangements to borrow what you need.

Plant Start Give-Away

plant startsThis year's Plant Start Giveaway will be held Friday, May 11 from 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the Riverview Launch Greenhouse located at 1523 Riverview Drive, Kalamazoo. If you would like vegetable plant starts for your community garden please contact Francisco at or (269) 762-6191. The plant starts and seed packets are free, but you must register to participate.

We are very excited to partner with Kalamazoo Valley Community College’s Food Innovation Center this year to provide vegetable plant starts for community gardens. We have provided the seeds and KVCC will be growing the plant starts in their greenhouses. This symbiotic arrangement gives KVCC students hands-on experience planting and germinating while providing plant starts for Common Ground Kalamazoo’s plant start give away.

We will be conducting planting demonstrations at the plant start giveaway, and will have experienced gardeners on hand to answer any questions you have.

Stop by at Hop Cat in Kalamazoo on April 22 and help support Common Ground! Once again, Hop Cat will be supporting Common Ground Kalamazoo on Earth Day by donating a portion of their tap sales to Common Ground. This is a significant source of funding to keep our operations going. We will be on hand in the afternoon to answer questions or just chat about community gardening in Kalamazoo, so stop by and join us for a beer! Hop Cat is located at 300 E. Water Street, Kalamazoo.

Hop Cat Volunteers Available

As part of their support for Common Ground Kalamazoo, Hop Cat has generously offered to put some volunteers together from their staff to help out with area community gardening efforts. If you are interested in hosting volunteers at your community garden, please contact Francisco at or (269) 762-6191.
